My primary backup at home has been a reliable set of two external 3TB  hardrives for a few years now, I configure them as RAID 1 and are connected on my Linux desktop setup. Everything has been working wonderful.

Now, I recently started working on a project where big data processing is required and my existing setup was found not suitable for the task.

I've find the following WD 10TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive, USB 3.0 - WDBWLG0100HBK-NESN quite interesting, cheap for the volume of storage. I got two of those and configure them as RAD connected on my Linux desktop as 3rd mount point and now I'm cascading the backup from the two 3TB drives into the 10TB drives.

I'll run some tests and will post later an update with the procedure to configure the RAID and my test results.
